Arriving after an appearance at the Bonnaroo Festival in Tennessee the day before, Derek Vincent Smith of Pretty Lights joined KCRW in conversation ahead of the release of his new album, A Color Map Of The Sun, at Sonos Studio in Hollywood.

Pressed on his intentions with this album to push beyond his standard techniques of "sample collage" and create his own palette of "breaks," Smith talks about his creative process and the challenges along the way that made the project so rewarding.
