Forty percent of Americans with family incomes below $20,000 say they're middle class. So do a third of those with incomes of $150,000 or more (source).
Planet Money Question of the Day:
What income makes a family middle class?
Please specify:
- City or region
- Family size
- A numerical range
So: Middle class — in a given area, for a given family size — means an income of more than "x" and less than "y."
