Questions and Suggestions

As Monitor Mix nears its sixth month of existence, I thought I would open this forum up to suggestions for future posts/topics as well as to questions.

If you have either a suggestion or question, please send them to:

monitormix@npr.org

I will compile the questions to answer in a later post.

And I look forward to hearing your suggestions. Otherwise, I plan on writing about how much I love the Adam Carolla Show and how I listen to it instead of the local NPR program that airs during the same time. (This is true.) Another post might discuss my love of the reality television program The Bachelor.

I think it would be great if you would bring more of your experience as a musician into what your writing. For me at least, that perspective is why I read this blog.

i'd actually be really interested to read your thoughts on the bachelor!

Sent by sarah | 10:13 AM ET | 04-15-2008

Really, I refuse to believe Robin on the Bachelor is 22. She's at least 30. I didn't look half as old when I was her "age."

I'm still trying to decide if my daily Adam Carolla (to prove how big a fan I am, I'm about to go all fan boy on you - you spelled his name wrong. sorry to be that person.) Show habit qualifies as a guilty pleasure or not. I love his passionate rants and he's lightning quick with the wit. Politically, I sometimes find myself shaking my head violently in disagreement, and that's when I usually start thinking I'm wasting my time with him and would be better off tuning in Think Out Loud. And sometimes I do. Really though, I keep listening to TACS because I like the guy and I love David Alan Grier, who often stops by. Oh, and I'm enjoying this year so much more without DB. Did you see The Hammer? I missed it in PDX, but honestly, I think it looks kind of stinky.

I couldn't bring myself to see the movie. I also disagree with a lot of what AC says, but I appreciate the fact that he is straight up (and then other times I agree with him and I am surprised at myself.) I sort of like Think Out Loud on OPB, but the OPB schedule right now is 4 hours of phone-in commentary and the AC show is my break from that. -CB

Oh man, I've started turning through so many red left arrows since listening to Carolla on my morning drive.

I don't always agree with him (like how quickly he'll make fun of "the gays") but, like South Park, he applies his intolerance across the board and when he's not totally offensive, he's really entertaining.

You should use your singing/screaming voice (your vocals on Entertain) on your next Day-to-Day spot. Or at least a fake British or Aussie accent : P

Any movie. Anywhere. Anytime. The Hammer?

You got me on that one. No Hammer for me. Maybe on DVD. -CB

You should do a blog about charangos - the little Bolivian instrument!
I'd love it! - thats for sure!

So, how do you like That Mitchell and Webb Look on BBC?

Personally, I find myself laughing out loud quite a bit.

THAT'S NUMBERWANG!

Odd I should be listening to one Carrir Brownstein sing the words "Reality is the new fiction they say..." As I read her say... "Another post might discuss my love of the reality television program The Bachelor" (I honestly do have Entertain on right now, well, it was on, by the time I hit send... Sonic Youths Teenage Riot will be playing...)

Your blog is grand, I read it obssesively. I might echo young "Dave" in his suggestion but that's not the only reason I read your blog, I read it for all the fruity metaphor and florid diction. Also gratified to learn you are a Carolla fan, but am I the only one that misses Dave Damascheck?

Sent by Greasefire | 5:28 PM ET | 04-15-2008

Carrie, do you want to livechat the season finale of Ghost Whisperer while drinking boxed wine?

The increased role of Bald Brian along with the termination of Bonaduce has been a dream come true. It's about time Terry the Pterodactyl dropped DB in the volcano.

Every time I'm ready to give up on Adam after one of his stupid rants, he'll reel me back in with the occasional interesting tidbit. This week it was the revelation that he like The Smiths and Talking Heads, despite the fact he considers them "pretentious". It's hard to hate someone who holds up Blue by The Jayhawks as the kind of music that people should be listening to. And I like Theresa too!

I'd really love to see some vintage album reviews. I know you're record collection is the sh*t! So, maybe pull out an oddball every month? Shed some light on treasured artifacts that might rock our world? There exist plenty of current record review (not that I don't dig hearing what you have to say about new artists), so you shedding light on stuff like Pylon is kind of exciting. (At least for a musical hodad like me.)

Any thoughts on Howard Stern and/or satellite radio?

Sent by Cindy | 5:26 PM ET | 04-16-2008

I'm kind of surprised, yet, not really at the fact that you like the Adam Carolla show. The guy is pretty awesome on radio. Of course, I think he can do no wrong since I grew up listening to him on Loveline. So you writing on how much you love his show would be more than welcome by me.

I suggest a post about Freaks and Geeks and how it was taken from us far too early.

Are you making any music or will you ever again?

Sent by Peg | 3:18 PM ET | 04-17-2008

I'd love to read your take on radio - it's influence on music - good stations/bad stations - the power of a dj

myspace - I'll hit my myspace just to surf around and listen to music and visit artist's pages

soundtracks - I used to hate them, now some of them are better than the movies they back

I'm still looking for the book - the one that I'll read a thousand times because it's shifted my world just that little bit

and what are you doing these days - I'd love a chance to see you perform on the east coast again

Sent by sharon | 7:55 PM ET | 04-20-2008

Pj Harvey or Ani Difranco - Who generally creates better music?
- I know there different genres but just out of interest?

Sent by shannon | 10:03 AM ET | 04-22-2008

I'm guessing she's writing the text of this blog, enjoying her dogs.
