Monitor Mix

Screams In The Ears

A mid-April mix tape courtesy of Monitor Mix.

These are some songs I've been listening to the past few weeks.

To stream, click here.

Deep Purple. Massive riffage. Not as blown out or Psychedelic as Blue Cheer but more melodious. I go back and listen to their albums (okay, only two of them) a few times a year. They don't leave the turn table for weeks.

The Band. One of my favorites. Each player is amazing. This is a band who I didn't really value when I first heard them. But later I thought that they were the ultimate group to aspire to.

Bill Fox. One of the best (among many other greats) from Ohio. Fox also played with The Mice. A friend introduced me to this guy in the mid 90's and I was blown away. He shouldn't be a secret yet sadly he is.

Misfits. A friend of mine drove me by Glenn Danzig's house in Los Angeles the last time I was there. I felt like a kid on Halloween, scared of possible hauntings or unwelcome surprises. I don't know if it was the build-up to the drive-by, the Misfit's lyrics I had going through my head, or the house itself, but I was frightened. Only later did I think how there is no other person in music who I might be scared to meet. Yet this person's name is Glenn.

Check out Muxtape to make your own and to listen to other mixes.

Enjoy.

Wow, The Lyres brought back some sweet memories.

Thanks!

Yeah Carrie! Awesome set and having only known 1 tune, it's nice to hear new music that caresses the hearing buds.
Bill Fay's Screams in the ears immediately recalls Ballad of a thin man but it's not a cheap copy. . .

Holy shit. I was just binging on Selda a couple of months ago, and here she is again.

Great mix. I agree with claire.

I fell for The Band when I saw "The Last Waltz" after watching that show how could you not love them?

Ohioans are a proud lot and your Ohio love is much appreciated. Let's elaborate on other Ohio greats in a future blog.

muxtape is possibly the coolest thing I've come across in a while. Thanks!

You should do this every month Carrie. That was great! Muxtape is very cool. Thank you for introducing me to Bill Fox. I got both albums at a used record store today. How is his brilliance not more recognized? I know he disappeared from the music industry but those two albums are amazing.

What a cool site, this is a new one for me. Cool music too, Selda is really cool. A friend commented that he was surprised that there was so much rock on your muxtape, "but you're a Rocker", I told him, "You rock out"

Something like this was going to be my "suggestion". you read my mind and ir rules!

Now this is a really great idea.

Except... "Database error: Too many connections"
Damnit.

I had a friend that lived near Glenn Danzig's house for a little while, over by House of Pies in Silverlake. When my friend Torie and I would go to visit him, we would walk past Danzig's house and freak each other out, "He's peeping at us with his scary eye through the upstairs window that's covered in ivy!" Aaaahh. Then we would scoot down the street in mad terror. It was one of my favorite LA activities, much better than Disneyland.

Im a Mix-tape-aholic...
ive made... oh hell if i know how many
and i even make them for individual bands... and then a live mix tape for an indivudual band.....

I make so many, i generally break down into groups... like... 90's hits, Anti War songs, Flying Songs, Bluesy, Swamp rockish, punkish... so on...

I dont even think I could make JUST ONE mix of my fav songs, Id want to break it into groups... and make 4 or more...

Great mix, Carrie. Wow, muxtape looks like a great site! Where I will no doubt spend many of my future hours listening.

Your mix inspired me to make from wherethis one... http://greyfool.muxtape.com/

By the way. If I hadn't been introduced to Black Mountain or Blitzen Trapper by your blog, they would not have made it onto my mix or into my music collection. Thanks for that.

Carrie,
Reading your latest post and then this one, I notice none of your mix tape songs come in at 2:42!

Sent by Tarastew | 3:48 PM ET | 04-18-2008

Carrie:

Check this out, it's a cool video of an integration of muxtape into OS X's coverflow.

Thanks so much for turning me onto Bill Fox. The stuff I've found by The Mice is really amazing, too. Also found a great piece written about him a year ago, detailing his life since the solo stuff. Great article, heartbreaking story.

I love the Bill Fox and Bill Fay! Great mix!
