Above: You know Jar Jar Binks makes you angry, but why?
by Linda Holmes
At last, we have been cured of our Oscar hangover! Fortunately, there really are other things going on in the world, and one day, no one will even care about Marisa Tomei's origami dress. And that day is "Tuesday." On with the show.
Read:
• If you're wondering why old songs make you feel good and terrible sequels make you angry, enjoy this article, which explores how your brain rebels when it gets angry at George Lucas. (Hat-tip to io9.)
• Variety offers some details about how the economy is affecting the production of pilots, with the most interesting tidbit being the fact that multicamera comedies -- which were in the process of becoming extinct in favor of single-camera, un-laugh-tracked fare -- are cheaper, and thus may be back.
What to Note and Ignore, including Oscar ratings and two unnecessary remakes, after the jump...
Note:
• If you were curious about the ratings for Sunday night's Oscars, the always-entertaining Lisa de Moraes of the Washington Post offers an interesting take.
• New York Magazine points out a trend toward classical drama on Broadway, and why -- surprisingly -- it's still all about the profit motive.
• Via Cinematical (where they're having quite a lively debate about it in the comments), the National Review's 25 Best Conservative Movies. (Included: Groundhog Day.)
• In news that's kind of a big deal in the world of giant, hulking, very famous blogs, Gawker is absorbing Defamer as part of Gawker Media's ongoing shrinkage/reorganization. It's important to keep in mind, I think, that the realignment going on in the entertainment (and other) media (1) has not spared the Internet; (2) has not spared salacious gossip; and (3) has not spared outlets that, for years, other outlets have been trying to emulate.
Ignore:
• Start humming. No, louder! If you hum loudly enough, you can drown out the fact that the CW has ordered a pilot for a new version of Melrose Place.
• If you watched the Oscars and thought to yourself, "You know what the award-winning song 'Jai Ho' needs in order to be a lot better? The Pussycat Dolls," then you are about to get your wish. This is a real thing. Truly. I thought it was a joke. But it is not.
