• The Chicago Symphony Orchestra has landed cellist Yo-Yo Ma as a consultant, which can only be good for its educational programs as well as its profile.

• If you've heard enough stories about the solid box office year that was 2009, turn your attention to one extremely silly theory about why perhaps people don't care about movies as much as they used to.

• The producers of Lost are so serious about saying nothing about the upcoming sixth and final season that none of the ads include new footage at all. Here's another one.

• In search of a totally objective opinion about whether directors are or are not critically important and totally awesome, The Washington Post mostly asked a bunch of directors.

• NBC's midseason schedule is out, and they're banking on pairing Chuck with new drama Parenthood, which was bumped from the fall after actress Maura Tierney dropped out for health reasons and was replaced with Lauren Graham. Not sure the over-the-top spy hilarity of Chuck is a good fit with family warmth, but it will be good to have Chuck back nevertheless.
