Starting Friday, things are going to be a little different here at Monkey See for the next week and a half or so. Why? Because I'll be coming to you from the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena.
This is essentially a time when the TV business makes itself available to a bunch of critics at once for interviews and panel discussions and so forth. This makes it a lot easier, among other things, to cover television from places other than California. For a basic explanation of press tour, you can count (as always) on Alan Sepinwall (or simply consider the fact that San Francisco Chronicle critic Tim Goodman calls it the "Death March With Cocktails").
For me, this means some travel and some odd hours. What does this mean for you? Lots of news on what's coming up on TV in the next few months. New HBO stuff like Treme from The Wire's David Simon, highly anticipated premieres like Caprica on SyFy, big returning shows like Lost (a show for which the panels are always very lively, as you know if you follow coverage of press tour every year), off-the-beaten-path things that perhaps you don't care about but my nephews care about intensely like Nickelodeon's Big Time Rush, and — say it with me — hopefully, not too many instances where I tragically put my foot in my mouth while attempting to ask questions and/or fall down and/or forget my name and/or forget someone else's name.
(Also, for those of you who follow this sort of thing, there is a massive Survivor gathering this weekend, which Jeff Probst is already boasting will include literally hundreds of past contestants, several of whom could potentially punch me or at least threaten me with their menacing tooth gaps, if you know what I mean, and I think you do. So that will be an adventure.) (Yes, there really are hundreds of past contestants.)
I will still be here at the blog every day, but this is also a great time to pick us up on Twitter if you haven't already, because if someone says something truly shocking, you'll probably find it there first. (Or if, of course, I do eat my foot, you'll find it there, because I promise to try to ensure that you hear that kind of thing from me first.) There will be some unpredictable scheduling, in that if I'm in sessions all day, you may see more off-hours posting, but there will be lots (and lots) to say.
