• I absolutely love this little write-up of what causes a story to get on the New York Times list of most e-mailed stories, and I particularly like the joke about writing a story called "How Your Pet's Diet Is Ruining Your Marriage, And Why It's Bush's Fault." There are many similar NPR jokes, and they all have quinoa in them.

• Eventually, science is going to solve humor, and then jokes will come in pill form, and it will be the saddest thing ever.

• Tonight's American Idol brings the debut of Ellen DeGeneres. I anticipate less "you look pretty" than Paula Abdul provided, but beyond that: who knows?

• There are some interesting numbers suggesting that people who buy advertising on television may be losing faith in its effectiveness, partly because they feel like their commercials are crowded by ... other commercials.

• Gawker has the clip of Jay Leno talking on his show last night about the Super Bowl ad he did with David Letterman and Oprah.

• If you haven't heard of Demand Media yet, you might find an introduction to its business model interesting.
