If this meetup at a post-Oscar party between Betty White and Victoria Beckham wasn't the best thing that happened that night, we're pretty sure we couldn't handle whatever was.

Betty White Betty White Betty White!

When I first heard that she was indeed going on Saturday Night Live, I have to admit I sort of thought, "Eh, they'll put her in one sketch and it'll be a stunt."

But she's hosting. She's really hosting. And Lorne Michaels admits that although they've actually invited her in the past (and good for them) and she's said no, this time, it was the grassroots fan campaign that got it done.

That's right. Facebook was right, and everybody knew it, and now she's hosting Saturday Night Live, because it was so obviously wise that it could not be denied. It is a triumph of a great idea embraced through social media, and more power to everybody who paid attention to it.

Rock on, Betty White. Now they just have to write material that's good enough for you.
