In this clip from Jay Leno's Tuesday monologue, which included a long series of attempted Times Square bombing jokes, he shows the supposed Facebook page of Faisal Shahzad, who's been charged in the case. When Leno shows what groups Shahzad is part of, he shows — but does not mention out loud — that Shahzad is a member of "Team Coco" (that is, supporters of Conan O'Brien).
Yes, it's true that this is insensitive and offensive, but more than that, with O'Brien facing some of the first real public criticism he's encountered as a result of his 60 Minutes appearance, it's sort of remarkable that this is the best a group of late-night comedy writers could come up with.
No actual jokes, like about Conan drying his tears with money, maybe?
Nothing about, I don't know, the bad song parodies?
Nothing about softball questions from Steve Kroft?
Just "I bet terrorism suspects like Conan O'Brien"? That's the full extent of the damage?
...All right, then.
