CBS kicks off the evening with a special called TV's Greatest Surprises (8:00 p.m.). The jokes just write themselves, don't they? (According To Jim lasted for eight seasons!)
The performance weeks begin on So You Think You Can Dance (8:00 p.m., Fox), where the top 11 compete for the first time.
The 9:00 p.m. hour is crowded tonight. In addition to a new America's Got Talent (NBC) for people who like...sword-swallowing or whatever, there's that Mythbusters (Discovery) two-hour special we've been talking about. There's also the season premiere of Top Chef (Bravo), taking place right here in D.C.
At 10:00 p.m., Bravo moves on to the second episode of Work Of Art, but that's not all. ESPN has the latest entry in its excellent 30 For 30 series of documentaries — this one is called June 17, 1994, and it covers an extraordinary day in sports news (do the words "White Bronco" ring a bell?). At the same time, TV Land is premiering its new comedy Hot In Cleveland, starring Valerie Bertinelli, Wendie Malick, Jane Leeves, and the White-hot (har har) Betty White.
