For the first time since July 22 (!!), the standard Pop Culture Happy Hour lineup — me, Stephen, Trey, and Glen, and intrepid producer Mike — are all together for this week's show.
We've got a few words about the Video Music Awards, although nothing as good as last year's epic Taylor Swift weirdness, but mostly, the show is pretty seasonal. In honor of the beginning of school, we take time to talk about the best schools in pop culture history (even the ones with hellmouths), as well as how popular culture is and isn't so good at representing truthful school experiences.
We discuss the fact that while Labor Day certainly has significant underpinnings, it's oddly lacking in distinctive cultural celebrations, so we take a moment to discover that it really means different things to all of us — as you can imagine, to one of us, it has to do with football. (It's Glen.) (No, just kidding.) (Although Glen does talk about football on this episode! He really does! And it makes me chair-dance for a while. You'll see.)
Naturally, we close with what's making us happy, not just this week, but this summer, as we bid it a terribly sad adieu.
Be sure to find us on Facebook, where we are currently hosting an absolutely epic discussion of insomnia cures, opera, and heaven only knows what else.
