Some Commenting Changes

Hi Friends,

Beginning late tonight, we will be implementing a different kind of commenting system, which will mean a departure from our routines. Two major things will change:

From here on out, you will have to register before commenting and the comments section of all old entries will be closed. All your comments will still be there, but we won't be taking any new ones for those entries. Comments for new blog entries will close after seven days.

That said, with our new system, your comments will go up immediately, hopefully creating greater fluidity in conversations. We'll still keep an eye out for problematic comments and you can help with this, too. Each comment will have a "Report Abuse" button and while this is a model community and I'm sure its use will be sporadic, if something is questionable, use it.

These changes are already live across the NPR site, so you can already register, look at the frequently asked questions and read more about the changes from Dick Meyer, our editorial director. Also, if you've got questions or concerns, just put them in the comments section of this post and I'll do my best to answer them.

UPDATE: The change is coming a little earlier than expected. Tech team is set to make the changes live at 5 PM ET.

-- Eyder

All, I knew it would all come down to saying goodbye to Leroy's Blog. I had hoped it would be much further along, but things change.

I am again in the waiting period between Scans. Should be done in another two weeks then we will know more. I am on an Infusion therapy called Torisel. One of the newest to be approved. These Scans will be the first real look at what is happening.

I still feel a great loss for Leroy and Laurie and all their friends and family. I get great comfort from this site and will continue along the path.

Thoughts to all, Stan

I hope I registered correctly.........I'm not understanding whats going on

Stan,

Is this the end of the blog? This is the first time I've joined anything like this so, except for what we've been doing, I'm blog illiterate.

Good luck with your scans. Let us know, okay? You'll still be in my prayers...

I hope I have just registered, as well. Please, Eyder, let me know if I haven't somehow! And thank you all at NPR, especially the site managers for all you do to ensure that this blog remains what Leroy and now Laurie meant it to be.

Not sure what the new stuff is either-will check in tomorrow. Stan, have been keeping you in my thoughts and prayers and will continue to do so. Hope the Torisel does its job.

Sasha, looks like you are ready to roll for tomorrow. Lucy, I'm not seeing you in the system. Did you check your e-mail to confirm your registration?

Sent by Eyder Peralta | 3:42 PM ET | 10-01-2008

I registered a few days ago and the e-mail I got with the link to finish registration didn't work. I reported the error but haven't heard back, so who knows if I'll be able to post in the future.

Sent by Bruce | 3:53 PM ET | 10-01-2008

I hope I have registered properly. I don't want to lose this wonderful blog family. Stan - I'm sure this is not the end. It can't be.

Sent by Tina from Alton, IL | 3:56 PM ET | 10-01-2008

Hey Bruce, shoot me an e-mail (eperalta@npr.org) with the exact error message and I'll walk it over to our tech team.

Eyder

Message sent.

And I have to say (while I still can!) that I dislike the collapsed and reverse-threaded forums I've seen already rolled out in some other blogs. I'm also not a fan of having full names posted.

But that's just me.

Thanks!
