Good Friends Fill The Heart
Have you found the time to shop for holiday gifts, between the chemo treatments and the radiation appointments and all the other things that go into cancer care? It takes up so much time to fight off the beast.
Then the real question comes. What to buy? The unspoken reality of buying gifts for cancer patients. Leroy wrote about this a lot. Do you buy the sweater or the iPod or the season tickets? Will your loved one be here to enjoy it?
In this house, we went with life instead of death and bought a few things.
But I'm here to tell you, better than any shirt, was the gift of friends and their visits.
Gather them at every opportunity. Nothing takes cancer out of the room faster than friends.
And that's what it's all about, especially around the holidays. Give it a try. It works for the life-giver too.
You're familiar with the old saying, "You can't take it with you." They must have been talking about the bathrobes and the flat screens, because good friends, talking about anything but cancer, fill the heart. And you can take that anywhere.
