Behind the Numbers in Georgia, Part One
According to network exit polls, race and gender played large roles in the voting in Georgia, as they undoubtedly will in most states.
In Georgia, just over half of the Democratic voters are African-American. Illinois Sen. Barack Obama did very well among them.
New York Sen. Hillary Clinton won a majority of white voters. White voters were divided along gender lines; men slightly favored Obama, while women were 2-to-1 for Clinton.
According to the exit polls, about a quarter of Democratic voters said race played a factor in their votes.
