Coughlin for President?

Two of New York's favorite pastimes, politics and sports, collided head-on today.

Super Tuesday voting in New York coincided with a ticker-tape parade for the Super Bowl champion New York Giants up Broadway in Manhattan. The festivities ended at City Hall, where Mayor Michael Bloomberg — frequently the subject of speculation that he might run for president as an independent — gave the team the keys to the city.

Not to be outdone, Gov. Eliot Spitzer announced that he had written in Giants head coach Tom Coughlin for president and quarterback Eli Manning for vice president.

It was just a joke, we think.
