Where to Now?

From the 24 states that held contests on Super Tuesday, the traveling presidential caravan and tent show will next set up camp for contests Saturday in Louisiana (Is it wise to hold a primary on the heels of Mardi Gras?), Washington, Kansas (Republicans only) and Nebraska (just Democrats).

From there, the contests include what we in the Mid-Atlantic are calling the Potomac primary on Tuesday, when voters in Maryland, Virginia and here in Washington, D.C., will cast their votes. If the race hasn't sorted itself out by the end of the month, it's on to Ohio and Texas in March. Both are big plums for whomever wins them, and the nomination picture for both parties is likely to look a lot clearer then.

Here's my take on StupidTuesday: The American People is the real winner. McCain probably has the Republican nomination sewed up, and the neocons have nowhere to go. Clinton and Obama both appear to have 'legs', but long term, I think Clinton will prevail. If the Democrats are smart, they'll unite to create a tent large enough to accomodate the Democratic 'base' without alienating independents who were duped into voting for Shrub in 2000 and 2004. Bill Clinton can be a major asset as long as he publicly keeps his mouth shut and his pants zipped. November will be close unless the Democratic Party decides to unite (for once!) around issues rather than personalities.The Republicans will do everything they can to Swift Boat the Democratic nominee, but in the end, Hillary Clinton will probably become our next President.

Have to disagree with MD, MPH's comments on Sen. Clinton's taking the nomination in the long-run. The remaining states appear to favor Sen. Obama.

Will Bill Clinton be the 'First Female President'?

I mean, he was the 'First Black President' while still pale as a drowning man. And even if he can't keep his zipper up, can he put up enough of a facade to have the imaginary body parts of the 'First Female President'.

Will Barack take on the campaign role of Junior Vice President behind Hillary?

Will the 'real' future president McCain take on Romney or Huckabee of Thompson for his V.P. running mate?

When you get down to brass tack, the picture is not that difficult to assess. McCain against Hillary and Bill, with the vice presidency something akin to a night at the museum scenario.

All the same, the American media's penchant for creating illusion, distraction, creative chaos and false hopes will continue to churn out 'What If' panoramas. It sells newspapers. There is that media's persistent fear of having boredom ruin their artistic endeavors.

Have no fear, media and the American people. Cause this coming campaign is going to be far from anything resembling boredom. When the mirages dissipate and there is nothing left but McCain against Hillary, then the real fun begins.

And I get to fantasize about Hillary (or try to) the way men once fantasized about Jackie O.

Hold on there, Fred Camorra Call. Are you trying to tell the people men can actually fantasize about Hillary in a mood similar to that of days gone by when vigorous male voters dreamt of Jackie?

Like I said: it's all about creating illusion to keep the campaign sounding interesting.

Truth be told, we can all sit back to observe as the Surreal Political Circus comes to town with two rings: one with McCain swallowing burning swords and Hillary swinging on a trapeze.

This election will go down in history along with the vigorous absorption of the tales of Caligula and his court.
