File Under Unusual Places to File A Story

Ah, the glamorous life of the presidential correspondent. Flying around the country. Hearing stirring speeches. Interviewing the movers and shakers. Then retreating to the men's bathroom to file your story ....

OK, maybe that last part doesn't seem quite so glamorous. But it really did happen. Yesterday in fact. NPR's David Greene, who is with the Clinton campaign, writes to say that last night the only place the Clinton team could find for the media to write or record their stories was in the men's bathroom underneath the risers of the Burger Activity Center in Austin, Texas, where Sen. Clinton held a TV town hall last night.

David was one of the lucky ones. He got to do his work near the showers. Less fortunate were those filing from near the urinals. Meanwhile one reporter who shall go unnamed decided to use the stall for its original purpose. Many other press members sat by in astonishment as the toilet flushed.

David notes that "The irony of this, of course, is this came on a day when Clinton was suggesting reporters should be asking FAR tougher questions of her if one of her economic advisers told the Canadian government her opposition to NAFTA is just politics... So was this press punishment? No, her staff actually felt really terrible."

One would hope so.
