McCain Gets Blessing from President Bush
President Bush hosted John McCain at the White House today, and said the Arizona senator has just the qualities America needs in a President. McCain welcomed the endorsement from Bush, which came one day after locking up the GOP nomination with primary wins in Texas, Ohio, Vermont, and Rhode Island.
Standing alongside the President in the Rose Garden, McCain said it won't be the last time the two men appear together.
"I appreciate his endorsement. I appreciate his service to our country. I intend to have as much possible campaigning events together as is in keeping with the President's heavy schedule."
With the president's approval ratings only in the mid-30s, McCain was asked if Mr. Bush's backing might hurt him with some voters. An opposition group is already running TV ads, saying McCain's policies on taxes, health care, and the war in Iraq are too close to the president's.

(Tom Note: Scott passes along that he had a "nice long filing window in DC."
"But that turned out to be a mistake. McCain failed to leave a wrangler with the press bus, and nobody told the driver to go, so we just sat for about an hour, while the candidate and his plane were cooling their heels waiting for us at the airport."
What we have here is a problem with communication, as they say.)
