Headlines: Hillary Clinton Leading the Pack

Hillary Clinton

Each day, we'll be bringing you the news headlines we cover on the air -- and often those that didn't make the cut.

A recent national Los Angeles Times / Bloomberg phone survey found Clinton is still the most popular candidate among Democrats. She weighed in as the choice for 33 percent of Democratic voters. Barack Obama was a clear second.

According to a Washington Post / ABC News poll, women prefer Clinton to Obama 2 to 1.

I find this poll not to be surprising because as an African-American woman, I find myself in the same position that though both candidates have great platforms but "gun to my head" if the election was held today I'll choose Hillary.

I've gone through balancing the scales; on one end there's Barack. A brother I could identify with by having an African parent but born as an American. So he knows the injustice and prejudice against the black man. I love him as a writer; bringing something new but I'm apprehensive that he might be a little too green. I've watched some debates and I was waiting on Barack to knock some ideas off the ball park but left wanting.

Then there's Hilary. I totally disagree with her for her vote for the Iraq war. But many did the same thing regretting the fact for having inaccurate information. And at times she comes across as robotic, lacking the charms of her husband to even woo opposing views. But at the end of the day, a charming personality is just the icing and not necessarily what takes the cake for my vote.

So I look at Hillary for her experience. She has shown herself to be a champion for women's causes while campaigning for her husband's presidency, during his tenure as president and afterwards. However, I don't rest on familiarity; and that's the great thing about having a choice. I still have about 18 months to choose and who knows; maybe I'll go for something new.

I can't believe that when you talked about the question on English as a second language at the CNN debates that you just glossed over McCain's response. Here he broke with the rest of his party to stand behind the right of a minority group -- Native Americans -- to continue to speak their language. Even to just say that "Senator McCain differed with the rest of the Republicans and supported the right of Native Americans to use their original languages for official business." wouldn't have taken but a few more seconds than "Senator McCain spoke a little bit, but there was no one ..."

My boss told me that Hillary voted yes that English should be the second language in America. I would love to be able to prove him wrong on this issue.
