I wanted to comment on the series on religion (and also to repeat an earlier complaint listeners can't search the blog pages to post comments on specific stories_. I don't think that it's appropriate, in 2007, to talk, as Chideya did, about "THE black experience" (especially for the show that says it is committed to talking about "the diversity of African American experince." Also, your commentor made unsupported generalizations about "African" worship styles (as if Africa has only one tribe, religion, or modes of religious expressions). I'm used to more rigorous critical discussions on your show. There are two ways to search through our blog, but to your point, we are always exploring ways to improve it. So please bear with us.

You can either search by category or you can enter keywords in the search box (both provided on the right side of the page).

In some instances, there may not be a corresponding post for your comment. In that case, your best bet is to do exactly what you did.

Hi Claire:

Chalk "the black experience" up to sloppy language. We too try not to use it.

As far as the African religions, I stand by my comments, with a caveat. A lot of the Africans who were enslaved in America came from certain regions of the continent, particularly western and west-central Africa. Although there was no one religion, many of the religions included ecstatic worship (which was what I was talking about specifically) and some form of ancestor veneration (which we also talked about).

I didn't say "the African religion," as if there were one, but there are similarities in worship styles.
