Police: W.Va. Victim Knew Torture Suspect

The African National Congress (ANC), as far as i can see, is not "grappling" with much worthy of its rich history. They have turned their collective backs on their Comrades in the struggle against Apartheid; definitely overseeing many sub par programs in the areas of housing and poverty alleviation; embraced so much misdoings and leadership follies.

The list of problems not effectively address is too long to continue; however if you look at just one misstep, it may shed light on the entire situation down here.

The number one problem in South Africa is not telephone rates, or insurance costs, or the banking system...or even crime.

The number one problem, as a Nigerian friend of mine points out, is Transportation (with a capital T) -- Citizens can not get from one point to another economically, safely or effectively.

This means business concerns can not run more than one shift; meaning folks can not make enough money to spend to help the economy to grow; which means it's a real domino (re: trickle down) effect.

Folks can claim the bad old days of Apartheid put in place this transportation system, however they can not justify not building a better one (Anyone into Monorails?), especially when a new expensive and limited distanced rail system.

And the really big sin and shame is that with the advent of the football (soccer) world cup, an opportunity was missed to build a transport system affordable and accessible to all.

The ANC and many other nouveau riche (wannabes & BEE's*) can not see beyond the high tech security gates of their palatial estates.

*Black Economic Empowerment -- a term and concept, as practiced to date, probably has Bantu Stephen Biko spinning in his grave.
