News Headlines: Nov. 2, 2007
Though there are some news headlines that warrant attention today (see below), this op-ed in a Philadelphia newspaper gave us pause. The city is grappling with staggering murder rates and increasing gun violence, and columnist Annette Hall writes about one unintended consequence:
The Philadelphia Inquirer: Driven to Profile Young Black Males — "Still, these days in this city — 336 homicides, mostly black men killed and doing the killing — it saddens me to know that if I were to encounter a young black man on the street in a hoodie, I would fear him."

Can you relate to Hall's experience? Have you ever profiled young black men in a similar way? Is it informed by racism, or is it just a self-defense mechanism?
