Oprah's out stumping for Obama, but the TV queen's longtime friend and mentor, Maya Angelou, is endorsing Sen. Hillary Clinton in a new radio ad airing in South Carolina.
In it, Angelou says, "I am inspired by Hillary Clinton's commitment and courage ... a daughter, a wife, a mother ... my girl."

Maya Angelou is an impressive person. I hold her name and work in great reverence. But, and I say this respectively, she is not Oprah Winfrey. Sadly, too many people do not even know who she (Maya) is. Maya Angelou is a great American Poet but Oprah is an industry.
Well said Shawn! But regardless of Oprah's phenomenal success, it's also nice to see that the mentor (Angelou) doesn't follow the mentee's (Winfrey) notions.
I live in South Carolina. I have yet to hear this ad on the radio, but I've seen it posted or written about five times already online.
Perhaps now people will begin to really think about their choices before pulling the lever. This is the first campaign that is not signed, sealed and delivered particularly in the Black community. I say - bring it on! Give us choices, something to talk, blog and think about. Thank you Maya and Oprah for continually being courageous black women and for modeling that behavior for all generations.
Like Tony Brown said in his book, "Black lies white Lies" People like Opra, Maya, Obama and any other aspiring elitist (Fariah), are the "Black unacountable machine" (B.U.M.s.). The people are just statistics in the political game.
Just one more descriptive noun needs added to Mayas' list: " A wife, a daughter, a mother, and a socialist. "
Inspired by Hillary as a wife and mother, should easily make people wonder about Maya Angelou's assessment of the situation. A phenomenal woman indeed, Hillary is not. Supporting someone who can't manage their own home to run the government, I easily say - change should come in some form. Obama looks brighter every day. Clinton doesn't represent me, or the women like me, who value politics after core values.
I think Maya, though through all the years of therapy through her written words, still has anger (issues) towards men; in particular the type of man that abused her. Or it may be that her ego has gotten the best of her and she doesn't want another African-American to out shine the accomplishments of her era, in particular those of MLK and the Civil Rights movement. I think in her eyes, the magnitude of an African-American man becoming a President threatens those accomplishments, when in fact it boasters that era's accomplishments. It has to be one or the other. Maya Angelou and Bob Johnson, your accomplishments will not be forgotten! Don't let your personal issues; ego and fear of being forgotten interfere with putting the best candidate for this country in the White House. We all know that it's Obama, who just happens to be African-American.
I think Maya Angelou is one of the world's greatest woman of our time. Her books and poetry beautifully written. She is a lady in the true sense of the word.
Obama is a product of the Chicago political machine and somehow that's been turned into him being brand new. WOW. We are being led to back a candidate who will be chewed up by more hard nosed politians. Growing up is painful and less titilating but lets get on with it.
I agree with Oprah's spiritual mentor. I am voting for Hillary!

I have admired Maya Angelou for a long time. Till today, I did not know her politics. I admire her for who she is mentally. I got to this site while searching for one of her mentors. She truly is a great woman.

Like Anita Hill, Maya's wise. They know full-well that women in patriarchy are "semi-slaves" as lawyer Christine Craft points to in her February 28, 2008 San Franciso Gate article, "The hidden 'ism'.
I quote:"While sexism hasn't had the same hideous history of lynchings as its companion "ism", the case can be made that gender bias is even more prevalent, more accepted, more insidious and more likely to die a drawn-out death."
Following the coronation of Clarence Thomas, Anita Hill told Christine Craft that "women are the last n-words, conditioned to denigrate their own kind".
Thank God and goodness for women like Maya and her powerful maternal ancestors - women like Anita Hill, too.
A vote for hillary is avote for bill one of this nation's greatest leaders, who cares who he screwed,hundreds of soldiers didn't die for no reason behind it. the bush administration was a farce, at least with hillary in the white house, bill will be helping behind the scenes with decisions made for the country, finally i can get a good nite sleep after 8 nightmarish years. hoooraaaayyyyy!!!!!!!
