An End Near for Electoral College?

This from the AP: "New Jersey became the second state to enter a compact that would eliminate the Electoral College's power to choose a president if enough states endorse the idea. ... The goal is to ensure that the national popular vote winner becomes president."

What do you think? Does this move return power to the people, so to speak? Or is it an end-run around the Constitution?

New Jersey's entry into the National Popular Vote plan agreement is exactly what our constitutional framers wanted states to do -- take control over how to allocate electoral votes. It's the constitutional way to reform the Electoral College.

The current "all votes to the statewide winner" system used in most states only became the norm in the 1830s. After that we as a nation simply started to accept it as the way things are. But this system turns elections into a farce where most states mean absolutely nothing to the candidates.

Our founders supported direct election of U.S. House Members and, in today's America, that's the way to go for president as well. Hope people are aware of good resources at:
