How Are You Honoring King Day?

As we observe the national holiday to honor the birth of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we want to know what you consider to be King's legacy.

Some have argued that the more King is honored -- and essentially deified -- the more his life and works are homogenized, altered and simplified. Agree?

When King was assassinated in April of 1968, he was supporting garbage collectors who were on strike. What issues do you think King would champion if he were alive today? And how are you observing King Day?

No I don't agree with such theory but I think people have a tendency to just see MLK's accomplishment as the "I have a dream" speech. Though that was a seminal moment, there was more to Dr. King than just the march in Washington.

People seem to forget he came under fire by other clergy and notable folks for taking a stance against the Vietnam war and poverty.

If he were alive today, I could easily see him standing against the Iraq war, the increasing disappearance of the middle class and maybe the disparity in health care and education among class and race.

How am I observing King holiday? I'm working - how about that!

Un-like most, I respond to the MLK
day as reflection on how two-face
the political and media are to DR. King legacy being that voice for the lesser of us in terms of skills and economics. My ordeal in lack of opportunity, even with extreme skills in mathematics and
science would be understood by MLK. Not those so-called backers of his dream for equality.I am spending this MLK day living the NIGHTMARE of scientific equality in the country that love the MLK dream.
