Whoopi Goldberg Snubbed by Oscars?

If you watched last night's three-hour Oscar snore fest, you may have noticed -- like I did -- a glaring omission: Whoopi Goldberg was not shown in a montage featuring former Oscar hosts. (Whoopi twice hosted the show.)

Apparently, Whoopi was watching, too. Here's what happened on The View today:

(This would be the second time Whoopi was served an Oscar diss. Halle Berry -- in her acceptance speech upon winning an award for best actress in 2002 -- forgot to mention Whoopi alongside other pioneering black actresses.)

I watched the show last night and I was looking for a "Whoopi" moment as an Oscar host and didn't see any but I saw when she won for best supporting actress.

Also, I wouldn't say Whoopi was dissed twice considering how Halle Berry was having an out-of-body experience for her iconic win. And for all the black actresses Halle named that night, noticed that none won the Oscar - Whoopi did; so I wouldn't consider that a diss.

Good point, Moji. It wasn't an intentional diss on Halle's part. I should have said Whoopi felt slighted; she talked about it at length in an interview with N&N contributor Allison Samuels. (I couldn't find Whoopi's exact quote, but a Google search turned this up: http://www.trashionista.com/2007/02/book_review_off.html)

Whoopi was also overlooked by Oprah when she had her Legends ball. How can one overlook her achievements as a black woman?

It's obvious that we, African-Americans, have to do a better job of recognizing the real trailblazers in our community. I just listened to one of Whoopi's original standup shows on Broadway, and when it comes to comedy, activism, or the big screen, she has truly been a one woman show.
