Update: Condi as VP? Not So Fast

“I very much look forward to watching this campaign and voting as a voter.”

"The GOP must be very desperate to consider Condoleezza Rice as a VP candidate."

"It would make a great reality show, sitcom, or movie. Wasn't Bush bad enough?"

"If she's McCain's pick, GAME OVER. The Dems will rise from the grave to stand in line to take a shot at that ticket."

"As a political choice, choosing Condoleezza Rice as a VP candidate seems to be a strong one."

"This entire scenario smacks of the repub media machine floating a name to see what the response will be."

That's what some of you had to say about the possibility of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice potentially pursuing the Republican vice presidential spot. But it's over before it got started. According to the AP, Rice "stressed Tuesday that she has no aspirations to join John McCain as his running mate."

After her tenure is up, Rice says, "I am going back to Stanford, back to California, west of the Mississippi. I very much look forward to watching this campaign and voting as a voter."

She would be how the conservative big money power core of the GOP keeps control of McCain.

I think it's worse then game over. But it's game over for the Republicans. In fact, the reason she's considered at all as a potential VP candidate is she's got star power and sex appeal. She's smart, and she's got 'it' but she's being used as US and World media candy by the Bush administration . Madame Secretary Rice, might not realize it but her future is more secure without the Republican Party.
And as to floating the idea at all the Republicans are letting the Democrats play the race card this year. Now they're seeing that Senators Clinton and Obama are both ahead of Mr McCain in the polls. Someone has taken a sneak peak at their hands.
Ante Up!

Sincerely

Somebody tell Rice to run as VP and then, in 2012, run for President.

Condi Rice was the woman in charge of the National Security Agency who ignored, from January 21 all the way thru September 10, 2001, the greatest threat to national security of our time- al Qaeda- despite the incessant documented pleadings of the lead National Security Advisor, Richard Clarke. Then, when he uncovered her willful ignorance in front of the 9/11 Commission, she set about lying, denying and besmirching his reputation, rather than admitting her own grave incompetence. As Secretary of State she has failed to achieve a single diplomatic breakthrough on the important issues of our time- Darfur, Israel, and even her specialty, Russia. Why on earth should she be promoted to Vice President?

Rice has successfully advanced her career all the way to the top nonstop by all means, including being Bush's mistress. Everyone of her action, her facial expression, her words, etc are for herself. She'd say anything, do anything for her own benefit, not for anybody else, let alone the country.

Choosing Sec of State Condoleezza Rice as the VP would not only be very statesman-like, it would be a brilliant strategic choice.
Statesman-like by showing regard for Ms Rice???s brilliant career and Presidential potential, acknowledging that the GOP is interested in giving the American people the absolute best ticket regardless of any potential biases.
Strategic by proactively taking away any advantage of the Democrats from playing their race and gender cards.
Not only is Ms Rice the most qualified and best choice, she would virtually guarantee a GOP victory in the fall. She???ll appeal to and energize the minorities, the youth, the women, and progressives in the middle. Think of it: a woman with real, not 2nd hand, experience, and a woman with real values. She???ll steal many votes away from the clear-thinking liberals who are tired of the unethical and valueless demagoguery of the opposition. Then, she???ll be in place 8 years from now to be the 1st black and the 1st woman President. This will trump the two best cards of the Demos!

If Candi becomes VP she will upstage McCain everyday. And, in this country with its crazies, could possibly put "President McCain's" life in jeopardy.

McCairn/Rice is the only ticket of significance in this campaign. It seems to me that a serious reform has to be made to secure a true democratic vote.Voters in the US have but little choice. It is time to have leaders to face the years to come.

Well, it's important not to overemphasize the importance of the office of V.P. We are talking about a person whose job description is to a.) help bring in an electoral region or group the candidate has problems with and b.) keep breathing in case the president stops breathing. Oh, and break the occasional tie. That's it. It's such a no-brainer even Dan Quayle was capable of it. So let's just say that Dr. Rice isn't going to exactly have problems with the challenge level.

What's important is its impact on the ticket. And that depends entirely on the Democratic ticket. If the Democrats are wise enough to choose Obama, McCain could have serious problems. If Clinton is the candidate, I predict McCain/Rice could defeat her (and almost any imaginable VP candidate) in a walk. Why elect a hawkish woman as CinC when you can have a veteran man? Sad to say, but that's how it'll play.

Just like four years ago, this is the Democrats' election to lose. If McCain puts his pens in the Resolute Desk, it'll be because the Democrats fumbled the ball - again. What McCain chooses to do to try to get there is secondary in importance.

To Condi: After the election will you be giving up your position as the Chairman of the Millenium Challenge Corp.
I hope not.
