Who hasn't wanted to say something about Mr Obama. Whether you like his politics or not his skin color almost everybody has one thing or another to say.That includes me. So with all of this USAmerican cultural exuberance regarding Senator Obama's campaign and chances at nomination and election let me say this about that which in this case is not a funny subject at all.
I posted a comment here a few weeks ago regarding that I believed we all got over this black and white thing a long time ago. "I had a dream" is after all 40 years ago and if you don't know what "when we were King' means, then please read a book or two.There are times however that my own exuberance flows like Niagra Falls whether at the mall or bagel store and it's tough to start up a conversation with a stranger. If the stranger is a woman do I bring up Hillary. If the stranger is black should I bring up Barack and if the stranger is a black woman should I venture a suggestion about John McCain who I inadvertanly nicknamed Jack one day at my McDonald's and somehow everyone found out before next days headlines came out that Jack prefers Mac.
Anyway at the mall I finally had to have a discussion with someone about this excitement and whether we were making fools of overselves. It's one way to break the ice instead of asking what kind of donuts is the special today. So a couple of times a few people most of whom were black decided that we probably shouldn't make any more the fools of ourselves then we already have.
Still I've found my comedic self with black men and women and after politely excusing myself asking them if they were black and then since they all answered yes, I excused myself again and told them that
I just wanted to make sure because once in awhile I had to reassure myself.
Unfortunately this got around our community of 300,000 people real quickly until I started being set up by young black people including college students that wanted their own take on the subject as if I'm an authority on this subject anyway.(It wasn't even on my 21st Bday on 125th in Harlem when in my yellow pick up I was told to "get out of town honky" that I was an authority on this subject then either.)
Well this didn't bother me at all but still since it got around I stopped asking. For the most part that is.
So if it happens that someone makes a thing about someone being a candidate that's black or not I usually just say look it up in Ripleys Believe it or Not.
Either that or "well lady is the pope catholic?"
Still I'm more then somewhat anxious if not at times sickend by things like this so regrettably I think I will just shut up and put up with the ignorance unless it shows on my face. Then I will usually just say 'pardon me if I appear white , but I'm not."

"finally ladies and gentlemen if elected I do promise each and everyone of you a raisin in every Cheerio and a box of Cheerio's Brand RaisinO's in every kitchen. Thank you and good night."
