How Are You Marking Sept. 11?

I am not necessarily marking the day in a symbolic sort of way. I said a prayer for those who lost their lives, and their families. I responded to an e-mail asking the question, Where were you?, and I'm moving about my day as normal.

Since September 11, 2001 has happend it has forever changed. I will always think of all those innocent people who lost their lives.

I felt sad to look on your site and not see more about this day. I prayed, remembered and looked at pictures. I really wanted to hear the radio spot that played all the answering machine messages left on 09/11/01. I think people have forgotten, or, at least, they've stopped talking about it. I keep forgiving too.

As the 7th anniversary of 9/11 comes in, i believe that there is forever a change in the world today. The world changed drastically continuing to put restrictions on what seemed to be freedom for Americans. It's hard to hear from people who were actually in New York at the time, which is why I couldn't imagine how I would have been able to continue handling life being there at that time. I feel that the government has done some things to keep us as citizens protected, but I also believe that there is more that can be done still today.

It seems to me that today is exactly like any other day in the big picture of world history. Since the beginning of time, there has probably not been a single day when people were killed, maimed, or murdered by others. Yes, it is unfortunate but the ONLY way to deal with it is for people to move forward with their lives. Sure, I think it should be remembered for what it really was but I know of 364 other days in the history of the U.S. as well as in the history of the world in which catastrophic events have occurred and many hundreds have lost their lives.

Why do we not remember those days as well? Is it simply because it is still fresh in our minds or because it happened on American soil. Don't forget about the Tim McVeigh event or the American Civil War or even the American Revolution.

I do not understand why September 11 is placed upon a pedestal among all of the days in history in which evil occured and many innocent people lost their lives as a result. Quite frankly, become overwelmed with emotion when contemplating any other day throughout time in which mankind has committed evil against one another that I have knowledge of.

As a result, I take a moment every single day of my life to reflect on such matters as Sept 11 that have happened worldwide to unfortunate souls who bore the iniquitous results of the wickedness perpetrated by others. I have found that as a human being, the only thing I can do each is to move forward with my life.

I am also thankful and have the utmost appreciation and respect for those people who VOLUNTARILY serve and protect the masses from such things. For these are the people who often times see and live through much worse than those who are fortunate enough to pursue other endeavors.

We put out the flag and tried to explain to our 6-year old over dinner last night what 9/11 was. (He asked). Just to give perspective, none of our 4 children was born yet on this tragic day. As they grow to adulthood, it will always be a generational gap. Think of how you answer Where were you when.... Pearl Harbor (my father was only 2) MLK's I Have a Dream (not born) JFK (not born), etc.

Time moves on. How we remember and pass on our history becomes the issue.

I was unable to read this e-mail and respond earlier because our Valley of the Sun Exchange Clubs Foundation was hosting the 911 Memorial Healing Field @ Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Arizona from 10 - 14 September. This our 5th year and it is the longest annual continuing Healing Field in the nation. I would like to send a couple of photos with this e-mail, but do not know how to attach photos.
