As you may have noticed, we're trying to keep the blog's comments on topic.

A few of you requested a "bulletin board" space for conversation outside of blog topics. One reader, Mark I, suggested a weekly open thread.

It's a great idea and we'd like to give it a try.

Feel free to use this space to discuss media, policy and NPR's journalism. Suggest items for the ombudsman to investigate. We're looking forward to following the conversation.

As always, please stay within the community discussion rules, among them:

  • If you can't be polite, don't say it: ...please try to disagree without being disagreeable. Focus your remarks on positions, not personalities.
  • ...This is not a place for advertising, promotion, recruiting, campaigning, lobbying, soliciting or proselytizing. We understand that there can be a fine line between discussing and campaigning; please use your best judgment — and we will use ours.
