Pictures Of Pictures From The Past ... In The Present
The people of the Internet have spoken: You are all obsessed with the past.
"Dear Photograph: Chinatown used to be livelier. @applesundae"
A while back, there was this popular set of archival American photos revisiting the scenes where they were made. Then there were the "Ghosts of WWII," Russia now-and-then photos. Then Young Me, Now Me — and Irina Werning's "Back To The Future."
The latest site I've seen Tumbled and Tweeted is called "Dear Photograph." What's cool about this site is that it, too, is completely user-generated. The directions are simple: "Take a picture of a picture from the past in the present."
The site launched about four weeks ago and, writes its curator, Taylor Jones, "it's already gone viral." Here are a few of the submitted snapshots.
Dear Photograph,
Grandma loved this beach.
- Dan Perry
Dear Photograph,
Oh, to be young again.
- Wizemark
Dear Photograph,
Dad always had the comfiest shoulder.
- David
Dear Photograph,
Dad never took a picture of me, ever. Then I noticed his reflection in the glass.
Happy Father's Day, Dad.
- Anonymous
Dear Photograph,
