Flickr user Bri Hammond writes: "This photo was taken very early in the morning, the day after Festa del Redentore (Redentore Festival) in Venice, Italy."
This historical celebration began in 16th-century Venice to commemorate the end of a plague that had gripped the city — as well as the construction of the Redeemer Church. Visitors still make a pilgrimage to the church during the festival, which is the third weekend in July each year. There are both religious and secular celebrations including services, fireworks and gondola races.
