The First View Of Earth From Space
Forty-five years ago, an unmanned lunar orbiter took the first photo of Earth from space. Both photography and the space program have come a long way since 1966; today Life has a whole gallery of the Earth seen from space through the years.
A 2009 image captures a whole hemisphere and was the first view of the south polar ice cap.
