We've come to a crossroads with ScuttleButton.
In the seven months of the Political Junkie blog — 28 weeks or so of button puzzles — there's a ScuttleButton rule that I never spelled out. Unfortunately, last week's puzzle forces me to address the issue.
And that rule is, you cannot take part of a word to arrive at one of your answers. In other words, you can't look at a button that says "Frelinghuysen" and come up with the word "Free." That's against the rules.
And as it happens, this affects this week's ScuttleButton winner.
A recap of the, um, other rules: All you have to do is check out our button puzzle/rebus each Friday. Take one word or one concept per button, add 'em up, and arrive at a familiar saying or a name. (Seriously: a saying that people from Earth might be remotely familiar with.) Submit your answer and hope you're the person chosen at random. That's it!
Oh wait. You MUST include your name and city/state to be eligible.
And also remember, the answer does not necessarily have to be political. For instance, the answer to a puzzle a while back was "Minnesota Twins" — not political at all, unless you're thinking Mondale and Humphrey instead of Killebrew and Oliva.
Last week's buttons, in case you forgot:
Sexon State Representative — Not a clue who this is.
LSD Not LBJ — What can I say? 1967 was a very interesting year.
Rock N' Roll Hall of Fame / WMMR — Button from a legendary Philadelphia rock station.
It's "Sexon," not "Sex." Even someone at this age knows the difference.
So, when you add Sexon + Drugs + Rock N' Roll, you kind of get ...
Sex and Drugs and Rock n' Roll — Not so much the "sex, drugs and rocknroll" slogan of the '60s as it is the song by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. (Hey, at least it's not "Jon and Kate Plus Eight.") Anyway, click here to hear the song.
The winner, selected at random among the correct responders, is (drum roll) ... Tim Barnes of Bad Schwalbach, Germany. Tim is our first winner from Europe, and the second from overseas; our Dec. 12 ScuttleButton winner was from Johannesburg.
