Well, that was pretty painless.
The Senate, with its rancor and divisiveness and vitriol and partisanship and deal-making behind it, passed its version of health care this morning. The vote was 60-39. Every member of the Democratic caucus — 58 Ds and 2 independents — voted for the measure. Every Republican who showed up — 39 of 40, minus Kentucky's Jim Bunning — voted against it.
The one bit of levity, or incredulity, as reported by NPR's David Welna: When the clerk called the name of Harry Reid for his vote, the majority leader inexplicably said "No" — which led to laughter on the Senate floor. It was obviously a mistake, and he quickly corrected himself. Later, speaking at the Ohio Clock to reporters, Reid made light of his brief gaffe:
I spent a very restless night last night trying to figure out how I could show some bipartisanship and I think I was able to accomplish that for a few minutes.
