Several governors, notably Democrats Pat Quinn in Illinois & David Paterson in New York, and Republicans Jim Gibbons in Nevada & Rick Perry in Texas, face potentially serious challenges in their own respective parties' primaries this year.

ALABAMA: 1970 — Albert Brewer lost to George Wallace (D primary runoff)
ALASKA: 2006 — Frank Murkowski lost to Sarah Palin (R primary)
ARIZONA: 1950 — Dan Garvey lost to Ana Frohmiller (D primary)
ARKANSAS: 1954 — Francis Cherry lost to Orval Faubus (D primary runoff)
FLORIDA: 1966 — Haydon Burns lost to Robert King High (D primary runoff)
GEORGIA: 1948 — Melvin Thompson lost to Herman Talmadge (D special primary)
IDAHO: 1966 — Robert Smylie lost to Don Samuelson (R primary)
