Obama says if he's elected the US will end its dependence on Mid-East oil in 10 years.
It's not all that unrealistic considering we get approx. 20% of our oil from the Mid-East. I just worry about getting newer fuel technology developed and in public consumption quick enough.
How about we end our dependence on oil entirely in ten years?
Can you not see the clear evidence of your senses? This man is a fraud. Why are all our leaders frauds?
I prey that enough people will awaken and act before our course becomes unalterable.
Cross what he means is that they will open up off limits areas in the U.S. for drilling. They have been doing surveys for this for weeks. Americans favor it apparently.
Apparently they don't have the ability to project cause and effect into the long term.
I without doubt deeply enjoyed the Obama Democratic convention speech tonight and I will certainly be voting for him in the upcoming presidential election. This would be no surprise to those who know me, as I am always a progressive voter.
However, I feel the need to think in a slightly critical way about the DNC convention 2008 rally for his plea for our vote this evening.
I loved most of what Mr. Obama, my future presidential friend, had to say.
I'd agree that we need to correct the stuborn mistakes made in the last eight years by this abusive of power administration. That's old news and it is no surprise that I would state this.
However, Obama, in his speach, kept repeating the phrase "the promise of America." What promise? This promise seems like a fable to me, especially lately. Couldn't we just have a list of goals?
This country has a constitution which was based on hope of what might be possible, instead of a "promise." My point is that this was, and still is an experiment.
Rather than to ramble about the hope that slave owning writers of the new law of the land would have set slaves free to rid themselves of future critique, the focus here should be in that the dream of the framers was actually to make the possible potential of America as they really saw it as real. This, however, was never a "promise."
My point is that nothing is promised to Americans. We have to work for what we want, and that was my only problem with this speach. We work for, and fight for, what we want. It isn't promised to us.
Other than that... WOW. I'm voting for Obama, because he is hope for from the so called top down change. When the President is on the side of the people, beautiful things can happen, especially if that particular change is what we all wanted in the first place.
Top down change (with or without the President on board) is impossible with the current members of Congress.
Our Congress (which passed ONLY 9 bills this year) is stuck, not just in partisan politics, but also an institutionalize "Cover MY A**" mentality.
In addition to voting FOR the president of your choice (sincerly, anyone!) You should also vote to unseat every incumbent member of Congress. (That is REAL change!)
We, the people of the United States of America, have the DUTY to show these career, partisan politicans, "Who IS the boss". They were elected to SERVE us, and they have FAILED to do that!
Rewarding failure is NOT the answer, punishing failure IS!
