McCain Camp Uses Biden To Lead Attack

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, McCain spokesman Ben Porritt issued the following statement on Barack Obama's selection of Joe Biden as his running mate:

"There has been no harsher critic of Barack Obama's lack of experience than Joe Biden. Biden has denounced Barack Obama's poor foreign policy judgment and has strongly argued in his own words what Americans are quickly realizing -- that Barack Obama is not ready to be President." (Release)

The McCain campaign also immediately released this ad, citing a Biden comment from the primary season that Obama is not yet ready for the presidency:

POLITICAL HURDLES

NEWSWIRE--Barack Obama has selected U.S. Senator Joseph Biden of Delaware as his intended vice-presidential ticket-mate.

Using track as a guide,
Judge the running mate's stride
As he sprints between north and deep south:

Can he dash down a phrase,
Trot it out where it pays,
Yet avoid running off at the mouth?

Perhaps I'm just biased, but I think this may be a bit of a stretch. I'm not ignoring the fact that Biden criticized Obama before, and this will obviously provide a good deal of ammunition to the conservative side, but then again I think it would be unrealistic to expect Biden to completely agree with all of Obama's stands and policies. After all, Biden is a much more experienced politician and a majority of the voting populus is looking for that in a candidate. If he and Obama agreed on everything and took identical stands, then as a vice president he wouldn't be adding anything to the administration. Compared to the puppet government we currently have, I think a few debates back and forth in the Oval Office wouldn't be such a detestable idea. Couldn't the idea of checks and balances be scaled down to fulfill its own purposes within the executive office itself as well the federal system as a whole?

Additionally, McCain barely has a leg to stand on when Biden says: "I would be honored to run with or against John McCain because I think the country would be better off." Notice his distinct word choice. It doesn't say "I think John McCain should become president", it is merely implying that through Biden's experience and his unique credentials, he would lend himself to the political process as an interesting challenge for a man like John McCain, who has also had much experience in politics and obviously has strong opinions of his own, to grapple with. Perhaps the same could be said for the less-experienced though highly-enthusiastic Obama, who, with Biden's guidance and expertise, could "become ready" for the presidency.

My sense is that if a presidential candidate has some gaps it's great to pick a VP that can fill them. Seems like Barak Obama made a very thoughtful choice.

McCain is pathetic. An utter loser. He is criticizing Obama by saying the person he's picked for his VP knows that Obama is weak in the areas he was picked for. So, that means what? Obama is able to man-up and make decisions based on information and not grudges and disagreements? Wow, how horrible.

This is official admission from Obama that he is weak on foreign policy and while I agree that Obama is filling his gaps with this pick - people vote on the top of the ticket.

Obama's pick is evidence that he lacks the confidence to lead at the presidential level. Picking Cheney overpowered GW Bush and Biden will do the same to Obama.

Lincoln-esque.
