Campaigns Developing 'Joint Statement' on Bailout Plan

Shortly after McCain's remarks, Obama press secretary Bill Burton sent this email to reporters, with the title "fyi":

At 8:30 this morning, Senator Obama called Senator McCain to ask him if he would join in issuing a joint statement outlining their shared principles and conditions for the Treasury proposal and urging Congress and the White House to act in a bipartisan manner to pass such a proposal. At 2:30 this afternoon, Senator McCain returned Senator Obama's call and agreed to join him in issuing such a statement. The two campaigns are currently working together on the details.

UPDATE: The McCain campaign responds with an "fyi" of its own:

Senator Obama phoned Senator McCain at 8:30 am this morning but did not reach him. The topic of Senator Obama's call to Senator McCain was never discussed. Senator McCain was meeting with economic advisers and talking to leaders in Congress throughout the day prior to calling Senator Obama. At 2:30 pm, Senator McCain phoned Senator Obama and expressed deep concern that the plan on the table would not pass as it currently stands. He asked Senator Obama to join him in returning to Washington to lead a bipartisan effort to solve this problem.

More than anything, this Joint Message shows what we really have is two parties that are beholden to special interests like Freedie/Fannie and Investment Bankers.

There is a large pile of securities that go on sale Friday - yes this Friday - and there is no buyer. If the Administration does not buy them from Wall Street they lose their money. Why should we buy them at unfair prices?

We are being told, honestlly, they think the value will go up in the future and they can refinance them then. Isn't that how this started?

I prefer to see Wall Street go bankrupt reather than the country. How come they never mention what the upside for Wall Street will be?

STOP THE PANICK NOW

The idea that our taxes are going to be used to bail these losers out makes my blood boil.

It's lovely to see a bi-partisan attempt at dealing with the biggest emergency our country has faced in some time... let's hope these folks make the right choice for the populus. Not just the bankers and moneymen, whose greed got us here in the first place.

Where are those conservatives who were posting on the original NPR news blog about how the "Recession" was going to be "short and shallow"

HAha ha ha ha

This economic collapse is good for us. We are not a people suited to power. America is at its best when it is the underdog, struggling towards justice, prosperity, and peace. We lose faith in ourselves when we come out on top. And when we lose faith, we become corrupted.

Let is collapse. We'll rebuild. I fear no recession.
