Slovenia Scores

Slovenia's Valter Birsa after scoring the team's first goal against the United States.

I called Sterle's Slovenian Country House in Cleveland, Ohio (huge Slovenian population) during half-time to see if there was a big crowd of Slovenians going buck wild after two incredible goals.  Bartender, Tony Lekaj answered the phone.

Lekaj has been in the United States since 1964, but still has a thick Eastern European-ish accent. He was the lone Slovenian at Sterle's this morning because the restaurant doesn't open until 11:30am.

"It's just me and a couple of waitresses," Lekaj said, "but, they're American and they don't care about soccer. I don't even think they care about baseball or football ...they have a lot of kids to feed."

Lekaj was watching the game before the start of his shift.

"I'm an American citizen, but my homeland is Slovenia, no matter who wins, I'm happy," he said.

That's good, because Landon Donovan just scored!
