Frequently Asked Questions About Sunday Soapbox

What is Sunday Soapbox?

Sunday Soapbox is a Web companion to Weekend Edition Sunday's (WESUN) political coverage. WESUN is a two-hour Sunday morning news magazine hosted by Liane Hansen. Given that we are in an election season, Sunday Soapbox focuses on issues, the candidates and the role of the Web in the 2008 election. From YouTube to Facebook, blogging to text messaging, we'll talk about how campaigns and voters are embracing new technologies, and how the Web has forever changed the way citizens engage in politics. Political podcasters and bloggers Faye Anderson, Mindy Finn, Micah Sifry and Jacob Soboroff lead our discussions. You will also see WESUN staff members Davar Ardalan, Jenni Bergal, Liane Hansen and Laura Krantz blogging as well.

What is Weekend Edition Sunday?

Weekend Edition Sunday features in-depth news, culture and arts interviews and features. Liane has hosted the radio show for 19 years and has interviewed everyone from weapons inspector David Kay to musician Gary Louris. Senior News Analyst Daniel Schorr and Puzzlemaster Will Shortz have been with the program for more than 20 years. Weekend Edition Sunday is heard on nearly 600 NPR stations across the United States, and around the globe on NPR Worldwide.

I look forward to see whether Sun Soapbox can help me to find a forum where important political issues are discussed intelligently but with common sense. It would make it stand-out from the the already plentify & useless sources for "horserace" aspects & one-sided "thinking"/propaganda.

I hope Sun Soapbox can become a useful source for this year's debate.

The political leaders of Mexico, Canada and the US just graced our fair city with a visit to discuss international trade . Has anyone heard of NAFTA? Not withstanding what President Bush said about why he chose New Orleans for the venue of the meeting, it is obvious that N O was chosen because we depend, economically, upon our port trade & shipping and we have no manufacturing. He even passed out a "volunteer award" to a local, in order to insure favorable press coverage. He then hosted a dinner at our most expensive rest., inviting about 30 "locals", along with Canada's and Mexico's reps. Hope the citizens enjoyed the "sound bite", as it was done on the US taxpayers tab! Bon App??tit!

Sorry if i'm sounding a little snippy today, but is anyone really reading Sunday Soap Box? Success is rated by the number of comments and after so may Sundays, well, it's just not happening.

So much is down right irrelevant and way too cute...wired or not.

Please bring back Tom Regan, the person who pushed all the right buttons at the right time.

This morning, the question was, Will race be part of the campaign? Of course, race is part of everything in this country. Beware of Willy Horton riding up in a Swift Boat at any moment.I believe that anti-black feelings are in our DNA. Also, too many white folks still believe that thier power is neutral, natural and objective.I recognized some of my "whiteness" by serving in the Peace Corps in 1961 and by teaching in an inner city school for 25 years in Wash. DC. Too many television commentators never examined their whiteness.Too many adults do not have nor read newspapers with national news and they get their so called"news" from television. Too many Americans do not travel and do not speak a foreign language . Ignorance is no longer bliss in this country.
