Political Junk-ette

Our Political Junkie, Ken Rudin, regrets to inform you that he is unable to provide your fix today. But never fear, his most worthy stand-in, NPR national political reporter Mara Liasson, has consented to talk politics with us today. On tap for today... presidential hopefuls are cracking open their war chests and counting up what's inside (hint: for Obama and Hillary it's not small change), and speaking of funding, the president and Congress continue to wrangle over a bill for the troops... and Nancy Pelosi takes a trip to Damascus without the blessing of the State Department. It's time to dish on all things politic and impolitic; what's on your mind?

I fear that some Republicans are supporting Obama or Hillary thinking they will be defeated in the general election.

Not sure the converse is true....

I more than a bit disturbed that the media has chosen to make the Democratic contest a two person horse race. Yes, with this, we have two minorities, a woman and a black. Last time I looked, however, Edwards was leading the pack in Iowa and a strong second in New Hamshire. Is this a case of the media controlling politics?

A big key to reducing the obscene amounts of money candidates need to raise is giving them free air-time. The PEOPLE OWN the airwaves and have the right to demand this service. We have forgotten that.

The Democrats apparently are unaware that people who voted for them were not necessarily voting against the war. My husband, for example, a long-time Republican, voted Democratic this year because he was sick of incumbents doing nothing. And many people like myself, who frequently, if not always, vote Democratic, certainly do not support cutting off support to our troops and packing a bill full of pork. My husband and I are disgusted with both parties at this point.

Regarding sleeping together, both my husband and I snore and we've discovered that a fan in the room helps cover up some of the noise and this greatly helps.

Eric - you mentioned women as a minority. They are not. There are fewer men than women. Also, it's hard to call Asians a minority, considering that the 2 most populous nations in the world (China and India) are in Asia.
I think the whole concept of minority group should be discarded. Everybody on the planet belongs to a minority group. Left-handed people, CEOs, gardners, snorers, Sikhs, soccer fans, etc.

I use to listen to this segment, but I'm really tired of hearing about the presidental race. Stay focused on pure politics, not horse races. Every cycle it seems the season gets earlier and earlier and I'm tired of hearing about it. It's too early and this is all speculation. ENOUGH ALREADY!

Mara Liasson is usually better at covering her bias than she was yesterday. When discussing Mitt Romney's fund-raising, she said that most of his money had come from wealthy Mormons. How does she know this? Was it just an assumption on her part? If so, that's not reporting, it's discrediting. I am neither a Mormon nor a backer of Romney, but was disturbed by her comment.
