Reports: Gunman left list of grievances

The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Virginia Tech gunman Seung-Hui Cho left a "rambling and invective-filled" list of grievances in his room.

A note believed to have been written by Cho was found in his dorm room that railed against "rich kids," "debauchery" and "deceitful charlatans" on campus. Cho was an English major whose creative writing was so disturbing that he was referred to the school's counseling service, the Associated Press reported.

Professor Carolyn Rude, chairwoman of the university's English department, said that while she didn't teach Cho herself, she had spoken to Lucinda Roy, the department's director of creative writing, who described Cho as "troubled."

Prof. Rude said she wasn't sure when Cho had been referred for counseling or what the outcome had been.

Serious props to Tom Regan for his excellent blogging on the breaking news of the VT tragedy yesterday and today. Outstanding job. This has been my primary source of information on the subject for two days now.

With respect,

Thos

You have mentioned other tragedies like Columbine but no one has mentioned Gang Lu. In 1991 Gang Lu killed five people and left one paralyzed at the University of Iowa. Gang Lu had the same MO, he used a large hand gun and a .22. He killed people at 2 buildings and then killed himself at a large state University. This tragedy has much more in common with Virginia Tech than Columbine.

Why can't there be a national database where licensed therapists, doctors and law enforcement could put a "caution" under someone's name. Ex-husbands with restraining orders against them, for instance, would be flagged so that a gun seller would have to get someone else to 'sign off' before they sell a gun to someone. People who don't want gun control always acknowledge that some people shouldn't have guns ... A robust wouldn't fix everything, but it would help.
