In Chicago, Los Angeles, Miami, and cities in between today, demonstrators calling for immigration reform are marching in the streets. But, compared to the more than one million protesters that came out last year on this date, even organizers admit this year's turnout can't compare. Why? The reasons run from fear to frustration to disillusionment. But, Gustavo Arellano says that's all wrong. "The real reason Latinos won't come out in full force this time around is because there's no need. La Lucha - the struggle - is almost over." There are plenty who disagree with him... what do you think?
I find it interesting that last year on Dallas television, the majority of the "young people" interviewed on air had NO clue as to what they were even marching for. They were excited to get out of school for the day. It's laughable to be excited at the new enthusiasm for young involvement in these issues. They don't even know what the issue is.
Illegal immigrants steal social security numbers so they can work. They break the law more than once, and get upset if people do not want them here. Identity theft is very hard to correct, once it is discovered.
hi about immigration. how many of the 2 million iraqis who have fled the democracy we brought them will be admitted to the usa? many of them worked for americans
in dangerous conditions.
What do I think?
I think it's an error to equate "immigrants" with "Latinos."
I think it's a mistake to equate legal immigrants with illegal immigrants.
Almost over? Perhaps, but not in the way Mr. Arellano anticipates. These marches are stoking a simmering rage among the citizen populace that will ultimately unleash a fury of justice upon these criminals. He is severely underestimating the American people. Not the politicians, but the people and their courts and this is a huge mistake.
There are millions from other countries that wait years to emigrate to the United States. Why should those comming from Mexico be exempt. Alot feel proud because they have lived here so long illegally and think they have the right to use our public services while tax paying citizens shoulder the burden. Here's how to solve the problem: Start prosecuting businesses and those who hire illegal aliens. Use that in conjunction with sending illegals back to the country of residence in stages based on the years they have been in the U.S. Impose a fine for un-paid taxes and use of public services based on their earnings. Than re-apply for citizenship back to this country.
I'm a illigal alien from mexico who listen to the show. I never hear enterviews or points of view from illegal alliens regarding illegal immigration and everything related to it. I would gladly answer any questions and make any comments about immigrants
When other countries also get the dream then the citizens of the world will not have to cross Borders, Boundaries, and Barriers.
When our jobs are located by our houses then we won't have to waste our resources.
When the employers pay a living wage, and we stop blaming the poor for the problems that the wealthy have created. and when the people of the world learn to share and care for each other then we won't be chasing ghosts.
First we have to take the edge off of throwing more money into education and increased consumer costs for products and resources. We need to control our own country, and the way we think, and we need to stop the frivilous spending so that we can spend on the issues that will keep us safe and provide for our security.
Some people act like all of Mexico is emigrating yet the reality is that only some of the Mexican population is going to emigrate. Answer the question why and find an alternative solution. If someone wants to live like you do and where you do, then you are admired, and if they work hard and are capable of having what you have, that is a compliment.
Many people are here illegally trying to be legal, they were blocked and the path to citizenship was closed so they became creative and found another way to their goal. That is desperation, again why? Why so much desperation and frustration?
We can reverse the curse of illegal immigration by returning to our proper place with our Great Creator God. When we get out of order, we lose law and order (Dan. 9:11).
Dear Mr. Conan My name is Jawad (Jaw~wad) Muhammad from Binghamton NY. I've been an avid listener of your show for many years and have never felt more inclined to weight in on a topic than I do with Immigration. This seems to be more of an issue of racism and population control, rather than the social and economic issues raised immigrations many opponents. Nowadays the word Immigrant when said in any context now a day is offensive, and is equated to people of Latino decent. Just like the word Muslim is only mentioned in the same sentence as terrorist. Theirs stigmas are nothing shy of racism, and they serve only to demonize the ideologies of others. And overshadows the plights of thousands of other ethnicities....African, West Indians, Korean, Asian, Caucasian Immigrants....Ect...that are migrating to the united states each year seeking a better future for them selves and their families. I am the son of an immigrant family, one of 11 children, my mother and father have been married for 34 years, 7 of us are in college and have never been arrested for any crime or branded the any title of dissidence. Some people are of the assumption that as migrants or immigrants we are somehow predisposed to violence and crime, basted on geographic origin. I migrated to the US during 1985-86 with my family and America has benefited from our presence just as much as we have from her opportunities. Oh, for all those curious listeners out their, I migrated from Trinidad and Tobago, you couldn't tell me apart from the average Afro America.
