I have a slight problem... namely, a sugar problem. And here in the office, we have what I'll playfully call our enabler (sorry, Susan). Though, I'm really not complaining, I've already grabbed four or five (or six or seven, but who's counting) pieces of ginger peach cake that she brought in this morning. Last week, it was some cinnamon concoction, cheese, breads, crackers, even a great chunk of steak that I couldn't help but combine with the cheese and bread. Yes, sometimes it is healthy; yesterday it was blueberries, raspberries, and a strawberry. All of which makes me wonder, does every office have its "enabler"... that person who spoils everyone else with baked goods and fresh fruits?
Oh, totally. Except at my office it's everyone enabling everyone else. All this week it's been organic ice cream leftover from last week's pledge drive.
Every new employee is warned about the 10 pounds they'll permanently put on just by working here - a sort of grown-up Freshman 15.
Enabler? I'm an enabler? Since when am I responsible for my co-workers lack of discipline? At least you mentioned the fruit...I do bring in fruit. And the cheese. And the bread. That's okay, right? And the London broil was a big hit, as I recall. But less on the sugar, I'm hearing. Let's see, less on the cake. And the cookies. And the chocolate. And the salt water taffy. And the fudge. Wait, are you sure? I'm not going down eating cottage cheese and granola bars and those ghastly rice cakes. Sorry, Scott. I won't be able to meet any dietary requirements that don't involve sugar...and taste and lots of calories. Like that scrumptious ginger-peach coffecake I brought in yesterday. And don't forget the Trader Joe's chocolate-chip dunkers at today's meeting. I think I'll have one with my tea now that my Supreme Court show is over. What? I don't see any on the table. Wonder where they went?
Uh-oh, who knew Susan read the blog? (Let's read Scott backpedal...) NO, don't stop bringing the sugar (insert begging, pleading here)! Especially not the chocolate. I meant "enabler" in the most lovable way possible (how else could you take a word like enabler, really?). And note, I used the term "playfully." THough, I must admit, I was not the one who ate all the chocolate chip cookie dunkers. So, you should probably bring more tomorrow so I can grab the last one! Did I mention I have a problem yet?
This is our blog? You mean everything I wrote can be seen by everyone? I take back what I said about the rice cakes.
There's no more dunkers, I'm afraid. We ate them all today. What about Trader Joe's triple ginger snaps? I can bring some of those in. They're almost, almost as good as the chocolate chip dunkers.
Or I could bring in the Kavli crispbread. http://www.germandeli.com/kacr.html
