In the '80s, fashionable working women had Liz Claiborne to thank for their power suits, skirts, and shoulder pads. Her eponymous brand was everywhere ... she epitomized the women (like Melanie Griffith in Working Girl! My fave!) who were breaking glass ceilings and navigating the tricky waters of work, family, and femininity. She died Tuesday, at the age of 78, but her label (now a conglomerate that includes one of my other favorites, Juicy Couture), lives on. Robin Givhan will remember this power house today. Got any favorite Claibornes still filling out your wardrobe?
I remember wearing Liz Wear in college and to my first interviews. It was a bit strange but fun to have the "Liz" label on my clothing considering my first name is also "Liz"
Not only a working girl can appreciate Liz Claiborne, but a working dog. My border collie gets a steady stream of Liz Claiborne collars and charms, from monograms to crystal hearts, every Christmas. And she looks fabulous!
What is Claiborne's family background? I was always told that the Claiborne Avenue in New Orleans was her family's connection. Would like to hear more about that...
I am wearing my Liz Claiborne super cute sandal wedges today. They are bright red and the part that goes across the top of the foot is a red and black sunflower. I love them. And yes I wore them especial today because of her passing.
