Picture it: Yankee Stadium without Alex Rodriguez... or, how about this. A-Rod in red, or black, or orange... but not pinstripes. It's entirely possible that the star third-baseman will take advantage of an opt-out clause in his current, 10-year, $252 million contract, and sign on the dotted line for whichever team offers him even more money. It sounds crazy, right? I mean, hello! He's still got $91 million left in this contract, and he plays for one of the best (well, winningest and wealthiest) teams in baseball. According to his agent, though, it's time to head back to the MLB cash cow and milk out even more millions... maybe as much as $300 million for A-Rod's next ten years. What will A-Rod do? And who do you think will step up with the winning bid for his talents?

Have you noticed how intently Alex Rodriguez chews gum (presumably) during a game? Cows could take a lesson on how to get the most out of a mouthful. And ... this shouldn't be lost on the Cub's management. Imagine the marketing possibilities ... Rodriguez in Wrigley Field !!!!
Joe: I like the way you think! Sadly, Tribune might feel they have to sell Wrigley the field back to Wrigley the company in order to afford A-Rod. Though, 2008 is 100 years since a Cubbie World Series win... A-Rod should be able to read the writing on that wall... wait till next year, it's destiny!
I agree with the caller - why are you still talking about the Yankees?? How about a segment on these smaller-market, well-managed teams which have made it to the league playoffs? I'm a lifetime Indians fan who has watched them slowly build their team back since they didn't have the Yankees' money to buy a team. Those guys have worked as a team to win. What are we saying to young players when only players like A-Rod are celebrated? This guy has no idea what the term "team player" means. More shows on baseball - real baseball - not players like Rodriguez and teams like the Yankees who play for the money, and only for the money.
Obviously, money CANNOT buy a World Series win OR appearance. I wonder how long it's going to take for George and others to figure that out.
One good thing about the outrageously high salaries of these most major league players is that they are less prone to be induced to throw a game for money (e.g. Black Sox Scandal), I guess that's up to the umpires/referees now.
