For baseball fans, 2007 was about record breaking homers, and about steroid investigations. It was about another Red Sox series, and another what-could-have-been for Cubs fans. But for all the ups and downs last year, the fans will undoubtedly be back in 2008. There will be pennant-fever, new records set, and probably more drama, too. The next in our series on the next big thing: Sports. Alan Schwarz, our baseball buddy, joins us to kick off the new year with a look at what's in store for major league baseball in 2008. I agree with the gentleman who is boycotting baseball, but it is easy for me. I boycotted in disgust after the 1994 strike and never went back. Of course I am not a sports writer, so I am not compelled to watch, but I don't miss it. I prefer small college sports, in which the sport, individual achievement (without drugs, we hope) and team effort and school spirit still seem to have a place.
