Pakistan, Al Qaida, and the Taliban

It's been a week since Benazir Bhutto was killed in Pakistan, and investigators are no closer to identifying her killers. Scotland Yard is on the case, though only as technical advisors. And there's plenty of speculation and theories, including an accusation from Pakistan's President Pervez Musharraf that Al Qaida was involved (which work to counter accusations that Pakistan's intelligence service was involved). In news circles when you mention Pakistan and terrorism in the same sentence, Peter Bergen jumps to mind. He constantly travels to Pakistan, reports on radio, TV, newspapers, and magazines, and literally wrote the book on Osama bin Laden, The Osama bin Laden I Know. He's in Pakistan today, and will fill us in on the murky tribal areas of Pakistan's border where it's believed Al Qaida, remnants of the Taliban, and even Osama bin Laden himself roam about.

Al Qaeda is the bogie man. Osama Bin Laden is the bogie man. They are the usual suspects everyone's willing to blame for every act of terrorism. All other miscreants remain safely off the hook. Maybe there is an al qaeda, maybe not. I doubt there is an Osama Bin Laden, despite the frequent "new" videos in which an ever-younger-looking Bin Laden speaks cryptic generalizations applicable to any disaster. We're being manipulated with fear to sustain the White House's Middle East carte blanche.

Where is Mulah Omar the former leader of the Taliban? How could it be that someone so powerful (once ruler of Afghanistan) could be hiding in the mountains while the same organization (the Taliban) has grown so strong? Why is there no longer any discussion about his whereabouts? Because without him there could be no Bin Laden

American's MUST remember that it was our tax dollars and the CIA which set up the Taliban to fight the Soviets, and trained Bin Laden in terrorist tactics.
Oil money paid to Saudi Arabia helped fund this religious terrorism as well.
Saddam Hussein was an American ally against Iran and we gave him money and weapons.

Americans need to remember their history to avoid future problems like these.

Dr Richard Blackmoor:
Thank goodness I'm not the only one that remembers those facts.

And we've be propping Musharraf up for decades.

Those who don't study history, are condemned to repeat it!
